Did you know there's a way you can get better, clearer calls on your cell phone for free? It is called HD Voice or sometimes referred to as VoLTE (Voice over LTE). This comes built into most new cell phones and it won't cost you anything extra. Here're the basics as well as how to set it up on your smart phone.
HD Voice sends your calls over the LTE frequency band instead of the one used for regular cellular calls and this has a number of benefits.
First is super clear calls. You see a big difference in call quality when you start using HD Voice. HD Voice also allows for simultaneous voice and data transfers so you can be talking on the phone while surfing the web or download something all at the same time. Some carriers even have more features like built-in video calling. Like we mentioned earlier, HD Voice won't cost you anything extra. It will just use your regular minutes like any other call. All you have to do is turn it on within your device.
Go to, "Settings", then "Cellular", then, "Cellular Data Options". Enable "LTE" and select, "Voice and Data". Done!
Go to "Settings", then choose, "Advanced Calling" and under, "Wireless Networks", tap on "Advanced Calling" to turn it on.
Some carriers turn on VoLTE feature by default for example when an iPhone is activated on their network or in other Windows or Android phones they sell. To find out if VoLTE is on in an iPhone, go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Enable LTE. If Voice & Data is off, tap it to turn on VoLTE. To find out if VoLTE is on in an Android phone, go to Settings > Advanced Calling > Wireless Networks > Advanced Calling > If Voice & Data is off, tap it to turn on VoLTE.
There are a few caveats to HD Voice. This won't work with every smartphone and every cellular service carrier. All the major carriers do support HD Voice. However you can check with your wireless service provider like AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, or T-Mobile to confirm they offer it in your area. They can also confirm which smartphone models they sell will work with VoLTE / HD Voice (High Definition Voice). Please note that for HD voice to work, party you’re calling as well as yourself will need to have HD voice or VoLTE turned on and be within HD Voice or VoLTE coverage range. You can check HD Voice coverage maps on your mobile service carrier's website.
To turn off VoLTE or HD Voice, follow the same procedure shown above except of course choose the other option provided.
