Cell LinQ Pro Meter (Soft Case) has state-of-the-art engineering that enables access to accurate information required to effectively design, install and validate performance for various types of cellular amplifier systems, all at the touch of a button. Its caliber hovers close to Berkeley Varitronics Systems (BV Systems) Octopus cell booster installation tool and the newer version Octopus Pro that is designed for installers.
The LinQ meter app works in tandem with the meter and allows you to view, tune and store 3G and 4G tower data and carriers. A survey is performed by linking the Cell LinQ meter to the Cell LinQ app via Bluetooth on either an iOS or Android supported device.
How Far From The Meter Can The Phone Be And Still Work?
The meter utilizes Bluetooth technology to communicate with the handset and app. The standard operational distance is between 30-50 feet.
Can More Than One Person Use/Share A Meter?
Yes. A single meter can be used my multiple users. Each user simply has to download the Cell LinQ app from the GooglePlay store or from Apple’s APP Store.
How Long Will The Battery Last Before Needing To Be Recharged?
During use, the meter battery will last for several hours of scans. In standby mode, the battery will last for weeks or longer.
What actually happens when the scan button is pressed?
The app will ensure a Bluetooth connection to the meter is working - if not, you will be prompted to pair your device with the meter. The meter will scan each channel for cell activity. If found it will send the appropriate information to the app for display.
What Data Is Collected When A Scan Is Performed?
3G: location, carrier, radio type, RSSI, channel frequency, mcc, mnc, cellid, lac, RSCP, Ec/Io
4G: location, carrier, radio type, RSSI, channel frequency, mcc, mnc, cellid, tac, RSRP, RSRQ
Does The Cell LinQ Meter Utilize A Database To Gather Information?
We use a database to correlate carrier, radio type, and location with a cellid returned from the cell site.
What Does "Unknown" Mean In The Carrier Column?
The carrier and location do not exist in the cell Id database for this particular cellid. If the cell Id is new, it may take a few weeks for the database to be updated with the new information.
What If I Want To Save The Scan Data Before Perfoming A New Scan?
Easy! You can save the scan data to a new project you create or you can recall an existing project and add the scan information to the project.
Why Would I See Groups (or clusters) Of Towers In Close Proximity On The Map View?
Cell towers often utilize multiple antenna arrays to create a 360 degree coverage area. Each antenna will have a unique ID. If a scan is performed in a location where the coverage area overlaps with multiple antennas on a tower, the app may display data from more than one antenna off the same tower. Multiple tower pins would be visible in the scan results. These pins may be displayed in close proximityu to each other on the map.
What Does Excellent, Good, Fair And Poor Mean?
Signal quality is not calculated but rather directly measured from the beacons received from the cell site.
Can I Export Scan Results?
Yes, the app will export a CSV file containing all scan information for a given customer / project.
Why Are There Carrier Specific Buttons At The Top Of The App?
You can filter specific carriers by simply toggling on or off each individual carrier. The blue light within each button indicates the carrier is active.
Will It Shorten The Scan Time By Turning Carrier(s) Off?
No. When a scan is performed, all available data is gather by the meter. The carrier filters are a fnction of the app and therefore, does not save scan time.
How Long Does It Take To Complete A Single Scan And Will The Scan Time Always Be The Same?
A single scan will take approximately 90 seconds. This time may vary slightly as the meter scans each channel in each frequency band and waits for a beacon from any cells on that channel. If there is no cell active on that channel we must wait approx 2X thebeacon interval to make sure we don't miss a beacon before moving to the next channel. Variances to complete a scan are likely due to the how fast the beacons are returned when active cells are found.
What Frequency Bands Does The Meter Scan?
B2, B4, B5, B12, B13.
Does The Meter Support Public Safety Bands?
Not at this time. We are reviewing options to add band B14.
Why No Sprint Towers?
Although our current app has provisions for Sprint, the current bands supported are B2 (excluding G block), B4, B5, B12, B13 and B17. Sprint's 4G network uses LTE technology in bands 25, 26, and 41. Band 25 includes Sprint's original PCS spectrum, plus the newer G block of the PCS band.
Why Do I Get A Different Number Of Towers When I Run The Same Scan In The Same Place?
In some instances, taking multiple scans from the same location can result in varying results. This is mostly due to changing tower strengths and capacity.
How is this RF Meter Different From Other Signal Meters?
Most meters meaure only RSSI values with no ability to store, recall or export scan data. This Cell Signal Meter + App measures both signal strength and signal quality, provides carrier information and other realevant tower information. Its app also has project management features where all scan data can be collected and stored in the cloud and recalled or exported at a later date.
Cell Tower Locations – Are They Accurate?
After completing a scan, the this cell signal meter's app displays a GPS pin location for each cell (not tower) discovered. It’s important to note that the pinned locations are approximate, and many times will not be the actual GPS location.
Here’s Why . . .
This Cell Signal Meter uses an open source database called OpenCellID to provide the GPS location – it’s the best public source available for tower locations. The locations are calculated based on community input of cell RSSI data to estimate where the tower is likely located. This is a pretty good method for finding towers, but it has some inherent positional discrepancies. The two main reasons for discrepancies between the actual position and the position reported by OpenCellID are:
1) Cell Towers And Cells Are Different Things:
It is rare when a single antenna is used to emit a 360-degree signal from a cell tower. It’s far more common to use several antennas where each antenna covers some segment of the 360-degree circle. In the example below, each antenna emits a signal at 120 degrees (3 * 120 = 360). This is where the big discrepancy between the number of cell towers and the number of cell IDs comes from. Each tower has multiple antennas where each antenna counts as a cell. Cell LinQ reports cell IDs and will give you the approximate location from where that signal is being emitted.
2) The Signal Measurement Is Not Always Distributed Equally Around A Cell Tower:
As stated above, Open CellID data is gathered from users in the community. As they pass by a tower, RSSI data is collected and used to estimate the tower location. Roads and paths where users might travel near the tower will vary as you can see from the graph above. There are many situations where it is not easy to approach a cell tower from all sides by car, bicycle or as a pedestrian. The above example also shows a cell tower where roads pass by the tower and different angles and distances.
In this case, the measurements will not be equally distributed around the tower - most of the measurements may be coming from just one side. As a result, averaging the GPS positions of these measurements will not accurately establish the actual location of the tower - but it will be a close estimate.
Having a general idea of which direction a tower (or cell) is located can be very helpful when aiming an antenna for a booster or M2M modem. We recommend using the Live Mode feature when you’re ready to fine-tune the donner antenna position.
