In regard to the type of phones which work best with the Drive Sleek OTR, the preferred devices are those which run off of a 3G or a 4G data speed. While you may gain a boost in signal strength from a 2G phone, you may find that the 2G data-based phones do not have optimal technology and capabilities to see a substantial increase with the booster.
It is important to note that the Drive Sleek OTR is intended for cellphone use, not for CB usage. While the 5G networks will work on a very similar system as the CB, current phones are fundamentally different than that of the existing networks. Primarily, the signals are based upon relationships with towers and network points rather than upon radio waves or AM/FM frequencies. That being stated, when mounting your cellphone signal booster to your truck, you will need to ensure that the antenna for your CB and the antenna for the Drive Sleek OTR are not within 12 inches from one another, as there could be interference between the two devices if such antennas are placed too closely together.

Therefore, purchasers should not alter the programing or the hardware, as this could disrupt the effectiveness of the device. Drive Sleek OTR signal boosters amplify incoming and outgoing signals. They do not alter the signals, but rather boost signals. As previously mentioned, the antenna of your cell phone signal booster should not be placed with 12” of any existing antennas on the truck. You can mount the antenna from any of the CB mounting points or antenna mounting points on the vehicle. Antenna mounting should be above the metal of the cab to minimize the risk of any interference or disruption to the signal booster. It is not required that the antenna be mounted above the wind deflector, though it is suggested for trucks which operate primarily in remote locations.
Though there are several components available for the antenna, not all the components, extensions, and/or adapters will be necessary for your truck. Primarily, you have three to four ideal locations for the antenna mount. These are on the upper side, the top of the mirror, on the mirror arm, or on the rear of the cab (depending upon the type of truck you have these locations may change slightly). Again, the height of the antenna should clear the metal of the cab. Should you determine that you need to have a mast extension, fit the cable from the antenna to the mast extension. Do NOT add thread locker at this point. You need to ensure that all the pieces fit well and that there is substantial clearance. If all is well, use the thread locker packets provided in the kit and screw the OTR antenna into place. Remember, a little bit of the locker goes a long way. Also, once applied, the locker is substantially more difficult to adjust. The best practice is to check and double check the height and connection before applying thread locker.
Should you require a side mount adapter, first determine if you need the mast extension as well. If you need the extension, add this first. Once the antenna extension is in place, test the side adapter. Then connect the side adapter to the main part of the assembly (the mast or the antenna). Do this from the bottom up to avoid any twisting of the cable.
Antenna springs are intended to relieve stress from the antenna mount and should only be used on shorter masts. Also, only the antenna spring provided in the package should be used. Ensure that the threads of the antenna and the mount match. Ideally, the antenna spring should only be added to the 17 and 32” masts. The 42” mast, because it contains multiple extenders, is not to have an antenna spring.
Once you have the antenna in place, you will need to thread the cable from the outside antenna into the cabin of your truck. The cable is strong enough that it can be threaded through the door without damaging the cable. Depending upon the placement of the antenna and the style of the cab, you may need to drill a small hole to connect the cable from the outside to the interior.
The signal booster is shaped much like a laptop battery back, meaning that you have an oval design to the width and an elongated depth to the booster. The booster has an existing cable coming from the far side of the booster. Place this away from the cable from the antenna. On the booster locate the L antenna and the hole next to it. This is where the connection to the booster occurs. When connecting the cable do not use excessive force as this will damage the product. Push the cable only till you hear a click, noting that it is secure.
Unlike the antenna, the mounting of the signal booster does not influence the functionality of the device. As such, it is strongly encouraged to place the mount where the operator will not trip over the cables or the booster (as this could result in damage to the cell phone signal booster). Mounting under a seat, in the back of the cabin, or placed securely overhead is best.
The base of the signal booster is designed with Velcro to attach to carpet and other such materials. In the manual the base side of the mount may be referred to as the hook side.
The cradle and the power connection for the Drive Sleek OTR cellphone signal booster must lay with 15ft of the booster, preferably less as the fixed cable is only 15’. The cradle connects through a snap connector. Once all components are connected, the power cable connects to any 12V CLA port on the vehicle. Ensure that you connect both the 12V and the power to the cable (marked with a dashed line on the booster). Please note that only 12V ports are supported with the Drive Sleek OTR signal booster. Cradle mounts can be connected using a magnetic mount and ball swivel assembly. The Cradle extends on the top to allow for ease of mounting your smartphone. Please note that the FCC requires that you never use the cellphone and the mount next to your ear. For this reason, the cradle is designed so that none of the major ports on the phone are blocked, allowing for Bluetooth connectivity (sold separately through your phone provider) and compliance with cellphone usage legislation.
Magnet mounting is included as an option to the Drive Sleek OTR booster. Only use the equipment provided in the package for mounting your cellphone to the signal booster. Do not text or use the cellphone while the vehicle is in operation unless you have the proper hands-free attachments (sold through your network provider). When mounting the cable and connecting power, ensure that no cords interfere with the pedals, steering wheel, or shift knob.
Upon the first use of your signal booster, it is requested that you check your phone for any updates which may be pending. For Android based phones you will need to go to Settings > About Phone > System Updates. Apple based phones can check for updates by going to Settings > General > Software Updater. By ensuring that your phone has the latest updates, you maximize the potential for a stronger signal. If you find that your phone is sluggish prior to connecting it to the cradle but after performing updates, you may have a virus or technical issue with the device. Take your phone to your network provider for analysis.
While the devices are made for quality and durability, there may be times when there is a need to troubleshoot the device. The weBoost Drive Sleek OTR has a LED troubleshoot system to help with common issues.
If you see that the power light is on and that the LED on the cradle is white, this means that the booster is working properly and that you are obtaining the maximum gain from the device.
A light that is off shows that there is a power connection problem. Check all of the connections on the booster and cradle first. If you determine that the cables are properly connected, check the cable to the antenna. If the cable is twisted or if there is any fraying or cuts on the wire, contact the support team immediately. If there are no connectivity issues, but the light is still off, turn off the power from the vehicle and wait a full minute. Plug the power back in and allow the system to reset.
Still getting dropped calls? Regular dropped calls while the booster is being used could be a result of the phone’s function settings with the booster. Turn off the VoLTE/HD Voice in your phones settings.
If you experience sporadic power to the booster, it could be that there is a pinch in the cable wire. Look for any areas (specifically around the door or where the cable enters the cab) where the cable may have pinches, folds, creases, or twists. If the cable is fine, check the power connection at the booster. It may be that the power connection has become loose or that the connection to the box is damaged (a result usually of applying too much pressure to the connector). In such cases, you will need to contact the manufacturer for a replacement part.
